Once Upon a Time in Daegu
An aging stadium and the surrounding city.
Daegu is a remarkably interesting place. I have been enjoying spending more time there. This weekend, the girl took us to a nice park that I had not seen before.
There were stadiums, trails and a large amusement park next door. There were rows of old men playing baduk (go) and I was tempted to take some photos, but that’s really not my style. I like the idea of those photos, though.
In the field, a dad and son played a wholesome game of catch. Then, in traditional dad-style, the dad instructed to the son to go practice pitching against the wall. The son nodded and walked over to the wall to practice.
The other stadium, however, had me enthralled. “Let’s go in there. Do you think we can?” Lucky me, the girl usually says yes to that question. Sometimes, even, she suggests it.
Now, some of the photo advice that cracks me up out there offers the absolute of not mixing color with black and white. Bah-humbug. It can be done tastefully, and there are images here that screamed for black and white.
I say, as long as you don’t do it like a checkerboard alternating and there is serious rhythm, it doesn’t matter. Use the photos you want to use.
As we walked around, I could not get past how every single gate came across differently. Baked in the sun differently, melting differently, some packed with junk and others empty and see-through.
I have not seen this much rust in a long time, though. It was quite the rust bucket and one should be a bit careful, I guess.
A set of thrones set atop the edge of the concrete behemoth. 1960s, I knew it. What a time that this was built, then. Daegu in the 1960s must have been a wildly different place. The short encyclopedia article about the stadium remarked about the city’s pig farmers not being too far from the edge of the stadium.
Some sixty years ago was a different world. Now, it has been repurposed as a few city offices and a bunch of tennis courts. I joked, what is the address for these offices to get mail.
Anyway, a short entry for today. My schedule is kind of crazy these days. Drop a line. Let me know your thoughts. Is the black and white with color a serious faux paux?
Cheers,
Hanz

Interesting place. It‘s kinda juxtaposed with the tennis courts. But at least they found a new purpose for it.
I love colour and monochrome images mixed! Go for it! Aah… – I see you did already. Well done!
